Haircut

I don't know what the average number of hairdressers per capita is, but Savannah's ratio seems to be fairly high. I open the phone book, which incidentally is both the white and yellow pages together and is only 1 inch thick, and there are two full pages of listings under the heading Beauty Salons.

I need a haircut, as you may have guessed. I haven't had my hair cut in about 5 months, so it's looks a little shaggy. Not so bad that I would have to have it cut, but it could stand some work.

I have no idea where to go. Supercuts usually seems like a pretty good bet to me. They may not have the best haircutting professionals in the world, but it only costs you 15 bucks.

The way I see it, anyone can butcher your hair, no matter what they charge, so why pay more? Plus, it's not like I have anything really complicated done to my hair: I don't need color, I don't need a perm, I don't even really want them to blow it dry. Just cut the damn stuff off.

There is no Supercuts in Savannah. The closest one is Charleston, South Carolina.

I called around today. Just picked at random some places out of the book. Apparently there are a lot of women in this town that pay a lot of money for haircuts, because prices hovered around $40. For a haircut.

The most I've ever paid for a haircut in my adult life was $25. It was the first time I got my hair cut in Tulsa, and at the time it was a bit longer than shoulder length and a blunt cut. It didn't even look that great, not 25 bucks worth of haircut in my opinion.

At Supercuts or Ross Edwards, you'd pay around $15 for a haircut. They didn't wash, and I didn't even care if they dried it, because I was going to go right home and take a shower to get all the little itchy hairs off my neck anyways.

One time I went with Athena to the Next Wave salon. Seemed like a nice enough place, but I didn't think that their $25 haircut would be any better than Supercuts. What you're really paying for is the nice interior of the salon, and their shelf full of Aveda products, which they are kind enough to sell you.

You're certainly not paying them to shut the hell up while they do your hair. Every salon I have ever been to, I've had to sit there and listen to either insipid conversation or endure some sort of product pitch, or both.

Anyhoo, I've decided to go to a place called MasterCuts at the mall. They take walk-ins and they sent me a coupon in the mail the other day, so I'll give them a try. If nothing else, I can go buy a hat in the mall afterwards.

I'm anxious to know how this turns out. I had really good luck with Best Cuts in Mentor, OH. Sounds like MasterCuts is another 'Cuts' chain. But maybe they're just trying to capitalize on the closeness to Super Cuts.

You didn't mention how much the cut will cost with the coupon.

By the way, I was just here, went to the other links, and came back, and voila there was your new post.

You wanna know the difference between a good hair cut and bad hair cut?

Two weeks.

Sometimes that's when my what appeared to be 'good haircut' begins to look bad because there was a long spot.

It's also why I cut my own hair for so many years. Then a bad haircut was FREE.

I go to a stylist, for a wash, cut, dry (which face it, by the end of the cut you're pretty much dry anyway) it's 15 bucks for guy or girl.

I think that is why people need to find a stylist they are comfortable with. The one I go to watches a lot of movies, so we have a common thread of discussion. Hence, no insipid conversation.

The coupon was for a $7 haircut (regular price $11.95). I went today to get it done...

The place was fairly busy (who would've guessed noon on Sunday would be especially busy) so I had to wait for about 25 minutes. The girl who cut my hair did a great job - I just had her cut it in the back to about chin length. I will definitely go back there and have her cut my hair again. She even left it long enough in the front to still tuck behind my ears...usually a problem when I get it cut this short.

Well, I decided a few months ago to give my hair The Chop and take a foot off or so. I went to a local *cuts place in town and she cut my hair 3 times trying to get it to "flip" despite repeated protests that my hair Does Not Flip. Ever. After the 3rd one, I was done. Paid my $13 and left. It was so horribly awful. A friend of mine recommended her salon to me and I made an appointment for the next day to have it recut. I haven't ever had a "salon" haircut, but I gotta say - they know hair. I will happily pay them to cut my hair in a flattering manner that will grow out gracefully. I have gotten more compliments on my hair in the past 2 months than I have in the last 10 years. I don't do Product, though. No thanks.

That's a way cool purse, btw :)
