Final Fantasy
has always been one of my favorite passtimes. Ever since I bought
Final Fantasy I for the NES from a kid on my school bus, I have
been enthalled by the world created by SquareSoft and their talented
team of designers and producers. Although I have liked some games
more than others, the one thing that always stands strong is Nobuo
Uematsu's fantastic musical arrangements. To me, Uematsu's scores
represent all that is great about the Final Fantasy series, weaving
adventure, excitement, romance, and humor into a rich musical tapestry
that transforms the series from just another piece of entertainment
into a truly remarkable work of art.
When the visuals
of the game finally caught up to the quality of the music, with
the addition of computer-animated cutscenes, I decided that it was
time for a tribute. Putting my budding video skills to work, I began
work on "One WInged Angel," the music video for Sephiroth's
theme from Final Fantasy VII. This was my first true non-linear
editing experience, and it served as an excellent learning tool.
Of course that also means that I screwed up on a lot of it, but
I still enjoy the finished product.
Several months
later, I finished Final Fantasy VIII. Being in the vast minority
of people who loved this game, I decided to try and express my enjoyment
through another music video. This time around I had a few more tricks
up my sleeve that I feel helped me make a better video, but that's
comepletely subjective, of course. Since then I have not had the
opportunity to work on any more Final Fantasy videos, but I do hope
to start playing FFIX soon, and I am sure that the muse will stir
me once again to get back to work!
So I hope you
enjoy watching the videos as much as I did creating them. I welcome
any and all feedback, and want to thank all the people who have
written me in the past with words of encouragement and support-
it really does make a difference.
